Custom Furniture Process: From Sketch to Final Fit
The full Custom Furniture process runs from a first sketch to a final fitted piece in roughly six to ten weeks, and knowing each stage stops you from worrying or chasing the maker at the wrong time. Here's exactly what happens between "I have a blank wall" and "the door closes perfectly."
Stage 1: The Site Survey and Brief
Everything starts with a measure and a talk. We visit the flat, record the real dimensions, note the DB box and pipes, and ask how you live. For a BTO still under the 1-year defect liability period, we measure with settlement in mind.
You leave this stage with a clear brief: what goes where, who uses it, and the look you want. HDB guidelines and condo MCST rules get checked here so nothing is designed that can't be built.
Stage 2: Design and Quotation
Back at the workshop we turn the brief into a 3D drawing. You see the layout, the internal dividers, and the door style before a single board is cut.
Review the internal plan, not just the face. That's where storage either works or fails.
Confirm the material. Plywood for strength, MDF for smooth paint-grade fronts, laminate for easy care. Solid wood costs more and moves with humidity.
The quote lands with the drawing, usually within a week, and lists what's included so there are no surprises at install.

Stage 3: Workshop Production
Once you sign off, the boards are cut, edge-banded, and bored for hinges. This takes roughly three to five weeks depending on how busy the season is; the end of year is always tighter.
We keep a record of your laminate code and boring pattern. If a later repair needs a matched panel, that record is what makes it seamless.
Stage 4: Delivery and Installation
Install is usually one to three days for a few pieces, longer for a whole home. The team builds the carcasses in place, scribes the edges to the wall, and fits the doors and hardware.
Soft-close hinges and adjusters are set so the gaps are even. We level each unit to the floor, not the wall, because the floor is what your eye reads as "straight."
Stage 5: Final Fit and Handover
The last step is the walk-through. We open every door, check the draws, and hand you the care sheet and laminate code. Anything off gets noted and fixed, usually within the maker's workmanship cover.
Custom Furniture Timeline at a Glance
For planning, here's the rough split across the six-to-ten weeks: one week to design, three to five weeks in the workshop, and a few days to install. Condo hoisting or MCST hour limits can add a day or two at the delivery end.
A full-home renovation in Singapore often runs S$30k to S$70k all in, and the furniture sits inside that. Booking the survey early keeps the cabinet work off the critical path so the painters and tilers aren't waiting on us.
Once you know the stages, the wait feels controlled rather than mysterious. A good maker keeps you posted at each handoff, and by install day there are no big decisions left — just the satisfying part of watching a blank wall become storage that fits your life exactly. That's the quiet payoff of going custom from sketch to fit.
